Lao Silk Festival organized by the department of industry and commerce of Xiengkhuang province coordinated with the Department of Proction and Trade Promotion, Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC) was held on 14-16 January 2009 at the Mulberry plantation and silkworm raising centre, No: 7, Ban Li, Meuang Pek District, Xiengkhuang Province.

This festival aims at promoting the products from Xiengkhuang and Houaphan provinces to the domestic and international markets and also to share knowledge among people in this silk business as well as local and central officers who are supporting this business

Dr. Name Vignaketh the Minister of Ministry of Industry and Commerce was the president of opening ceremony and giving prizes for the silk product contest winners on January 14, 2009. There were several activities in the festival including the demonstration of the mulberry tree cultivation, raising silkworm, organic silk production and natural dyeing of Xiengkhuang and Houaphan provinces. Moreover, silk products, umbrella made from paper mulberry and wooden carving were displayed also. Special event including Lao silk fashion show, Lao traditional music and local dance performances were carried out.

The silk product contest chaired by Mrs. Anoumone Kittirath (the deputy director of Production and Trade Promotion Department) and concerned committees from Xiengkhuang and Houaphan province was organized on 13 January 2009. There were 103 pieces from 24 enterprises sent to the contest. The results of the contest are as following:
